Training for Avon 39 -Part 1

I began my journey on January 4th by registering for the Avon 39 -The Walk To End Breast Cancer. 

Oh yes, you read that right. It is a 2 day, 39.3 mile walk that will be in Washington DC April 30th-May 1st. I will not lie, this is quite a daunting task. It should be -getting cancer is also scary -it is also a daunting task. Fighting through it is more than just a one time shot in the arm, going to see the doctor twice a year, or take some medications twice a day. As a woman -the odds are against you too: A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.* Every 3 minutes, there is a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer.* It isn't just women either: Approximately 230,480 women and 2,140 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.*Don't dismiss the fact that cancer doesn't hurt hurt just person with it -it affects the friends, the family and the coworkers too. We all fight with you. While we wish we could take the pain for you- if we could just physically, emotionally, and spiritually help more. We are affected too, this is why I am walking. This is why I feel strongly about it. I have seen too many people suffer, too many tears, too many broken dreams, and too many fighters have to fight for too long. All money raised by the AVON 39 is managed by the Avon Foundation for Women, a 501(C)(3) public charity that funds a comprehensive network of programs and services dedicated to serving breast cancer patients and their families.
